Piedmont Air Conditioning was founded in 1971 and we are celebrating our 40 year anniversary throughout all of 2011. Our employees today still strive to deliver the level of service that our founders, Larry and Buddy Kelly, built the company around. Over the last 40 years, the portfolio of services and solutions we offer to our customers has grown exponentially. Piedmont employees are working with customers to help them

• Develop and implement cost effective preventative maintenance programs

• Design and build energy efficient mechanical systems for their buildings

• Design and install state of the art energy management and building automation systems

• Identify, design, and install energy efficiency measures aimed at reducing the utility costs, utility consumption, and carbon footprint of commercial facilities

• Address indoor air quality issues

• Identify and correct electrical system issues

• Construct and maintain LEED rated buildings

In an effort to insure our current and future customers are aware of the vast array of value added services offered by Piedmont, we have elected to change our name from “Piedmont Air Conditioning” to “Piedmont Service Group”. This change will be effective on April 11th, 2011. There has been no change in ownership of the company. Over the next couple of months, you will see our new name and logo show up on trucks, signs, invoices, proposals, and other various areas.

Our new website will be www.piedmontservicegroup.com and our new email addresses will be @piedmontsg.com instead of @piedmontac.com.

This is a very exciting time for us and we are glad to share it with you!

As many of you already know Piedmont recently hosted a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) class in which participants from Piedmont, other Service Logic companies and outsiders reviewed CEM material, studied hard, and took the CEM exam.

Special congratulations to Chris Turner, Shane Corbett, Mark Fowler and Scott Gugenheim for successfully passing the test. This is a great accomplishment for these 4 as individuals and as members of the Piedmont Team.

We anticipate continuing the process of CEM certification for the others who participated with continuing class, study and testing. One of the most important things for all of us to remember is that this class greatly increased and enhanced our knowledge about energy concepts, financial impacts and energy strategies. Everyone who participated in the class is smarter now than they were when they started. Without regard to testing outcome, this alone made it worth it for all of us. For that we thank all of the participants.

All sorts of characters showed up at Piedmont Air Conditioning today to celebrate Halloween! We had a costume contest with prizes for many categories such as "Spookiest", "Most Original", "Best Last Minute", "Most Creative", and "Best Overall". The winners won a pumpkin trophy, gift card, and many laughs! Everyone enjoyed candy, cookies and cupcakes as refreshments to get in to the Halloween mood. Every year Piedmont Air Conditioning hosts a customer appreciation event to thank all of our great customers. This years party was the best yet! With great food and drinks including BBQ pork & chicken, crab, shrimp, oysters, banana's foster and fried cheesecake everyone enjoined themselves. Door prizes of t-shirts "Shucking Energy Cost and Oysters" were given out along with PAC koozies to keep all the drinks cold. Check out some of the fun pictures from the event below!

Energy Star Certification!

Piedmont Air Conditioning's headquarters in Raleigh NC earned EPA's Energy Star Certification. This certification is from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and recognizes Piedmont Air Conditioning of Raleigh for demonstrating superior energy performance.

Please help me congratulate Jeremiah on his promotion to Projects/Start-up Supervisor. Jeremiah has been managing the Construction Start-up Group for several years and stands ready to accept this new challenge in Service Projects. Jeremiah has provided outstanding leadership over the last several years in managing this part of Construction to reduce the amount of call backs and warranty calls. He brings a tremendous amount of HVAC knowledge and experience with him to aid in his success at his new position. Not only will he be taking the reins from Roger in the Projects group but he will still continue managing the Construction Start-up Group. We feel that Jeremiah has the ambition, desire and great attitude that will make this a seamless transition.

Congratulations Roger!

Please help me congratulate Roger on yet another position within the company. Since Roger started working here he has always stepped up and helped in whatever role we have asked him to. Roger first came to Piedmont as a residential service technician in 1981. Since then he has worn many hats for us including; commercial service technician, service supervisor, service manager, BAS technician, and service project supervisor.

Now he starts his new role as Controls Specialist. For more than a year now we have been trying to come up with a plan to help support all of our service branches with maintenance, service diagnostics, and repairs for different building automation systems. As many of you know it is impossible to find one person that can work on all the different manufacturers systems. Roger has experience with many of the control systems we see on a daily basis. Roger has seen firsthand how important this position is to our business, when we finally decided we needed to move forward with hiring someone Roger volunteered. I can’t think of anyone that would be better at this job than him.

Roger will work in the Automated Facility Solutions Division of our company. His main responsibilities will be to make sure we get the maintenance performed and to support services within this division for all of our service branches.

Please congratulate Roger when you see him for stepping up and helping us as we continue to grow this division.

On Wednesday September 29, the entire Piedmont eastern group gathered at the Greenville Hilton for breakfast, awards and a four hour STRENGTHSFINDER Forum with Paul Barker. Following the SF component at Carolina Beach in early June with the Sales & Operations teams from across the Piedmont group, we felt that there would be tremendous value in bringing in our staff from across the east for a time of teambuilding and greater appreciation of our personal strengths as well as a better understanding of those around us.

During the month of August, each associate did the on-line strengthsfinder 2.0 survey, which yields your top five strengths/themes. We compiled all of our data along with that of Erika Martinez and Scott Gugenheim, who joined Piedmont after our gathering at Carolina Beach. The information was sent to Paul Barker, who had previously facilitated the process for us, who in turn built a matrix with all of our themes and compiled a narrative for us to walk through during our Wednesday session. It was a lively and engaging time of interaction amongst our group.

Piedmont Raleigh gathered yesterday afternoon to celebrate Judy Batten and wish her a happy retirement!

We celebrated with a cute "Best Wishes" cake and ice cream!

Judy was presented with a signed picture of her "work family" here at PAC Raleigh.

Piedmont Air Conditioning's First ENEGY DAZE

On Thursday, Piedmont Air Conditioning hosted its first Energy Daze Class. General Managers and Sales Representatives from all of our branches participated in a day full of Energy related speakers and presentations.

Some of the days' topics included a presentation about the Progress Energy Rebate Program, Current trends in the Solar Market, Innovative Lighting Technologies and a Presentation of the Energy Dashboard by Trend Controls.

Participants were treated to lunch from Moe's Southwest Grill. Energy Daze is just one of example of how Piedmont Air Conditioning is staying on the cutting edge of Energy Services.

Once a year, Piedmont Air Conditioning- Raleigh, rises at the crack of dawn to open the PAC annual Truck Wash. Buckets, brushes, and expert tire cleaners are all on hand in a show of appreciation for how hard our field staff works. While getting their trucks or vans washed, our technicians are treated to Bojangles biscuts and delicious doughnuts. Our technicians work hard and are the backbone of our company, so it is important to show them how much we appreciate everything they do. Thanks!

Scott is a graduate of North Carolina Sate University with a Degree in Management, Finance Concentration. He comes to us from the Raleigh office of Siemens Building Technologies Division, where he held the titles of Energy and Environmental Solutions General Manager for Georgia/Carolinas District and Enterprise Accounts Manager, Energy USA. Prior to working with Siemens, Scott worked for Johnson Controls as a National Accounts Manager. PAC has receieved our Indoor Air Quality Testing Certification. This certification allows Piedmont to offer IAQ, Microbial, and Industrial Hygiene testing to our customers. This value added service will include Microbial Testing, Asbestos Testing, Legionella Testing, Endotoxin Testing, Mycotoxin Testing, Sewage Screen Testing, Indoor Allergen Testing, Industrial Hygiene Testing and Interpretation of Laboratory Test Results. We have offered mold and asbestos test since 2001.
